Description
The IBM Tivoli Netcool/Reporter 2.0 Installation and Administration course provides students with the ability to install, configure and operate the Netcool/Reporter product. This will include understanding the hardware and software requirements, configuring the operating system, configuring the database, installing and configuring the High Performance Oracle Gateway in Reporter mode, installing the Netcool/Reporter Server, JRun, Apache, and command line interaction with the various software components.
Students will learn how to administer Users and Groups, Data Sources, the Reporter Server and User Pages.
The course has many practical sessions, each student performing installation and configuration activities on a dedicated Solaris workstation. For much of the webbased configuration work, the student must bring a pc/laptop running Internet Explorer version 5+.


Upon completion of the training, each student will be able to deploy and integrate Netcool/Reporter version 2.0 on a Solaris host. The student will learn and use basic troubleshooting and faultfinding techniques.
An Oracle 8i instance and Netcool/OMNIbus v3.6 are pre-installed on each student’s Solaris8 workstation. The student learns how to customize the Oracle instance in preparation for the installation and operation of the High Performance Oracle Gateway. The Reporter Server is then installed and integrated with the Oracle instance. The student then learns how to manage Users and Groups, Data Sources, Roles and User Pages.

Audience
Technical personnel who will install Netcool/Reporter version 2.0 and require an understanding of the techniques and processes required

Prerequisites

  • Students must have an understanding of Solaris8 at the system administrator level.
  • The ability to manage UNIX file systems and edit text files is mandatory.
  • A thorough understanding of the IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus product is required.
  • Completion of the IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus Administration and Configuration course is mandatory.

Objectives
Upon completion of this course, each student will understand how to install and configure the Netcool Reporter Server and perform basic administration tasks. Students will:

  • Understand the hardware requirements
  • Know how to create the Oracle Reporter tablespace and tables
  • Know how to create the Oracle Repository tablespace and tables
  • Know which files require modification for the High-Performance Oracle Gateway
  • Understand configuration requirements for nonstandard OMNIbus alerts.status schema
  • Learn how to install, configure, run and test the High-Performance Oracle Gateway
  • Know how to install and run the Netcool/Reporter Server
  • Know how to access the Netcool/Reporter GUI with a web browser
  • Know how to create new Reporter Users, Groups and Roles
  • Know how to create and manage Channels and Pages
