4.0 Day(s)
The IBM Tivoli Netcool/XSM 3.1 Administration course is a 4 day performance-based offering facilitating a deep understanding of application service monitors (ASMs), system monitor operations (SMs), and Internet service monitors (ISMs). This course is focused on how to install, configure, customize, and administer the Netcool/XSMs.
With a strong focus on development, deployment, configuration and management of the Netcool/SSM agents, this course is intended for system administrators. All students in this course install the Netcool/SSM program on their own lab machine and work through standard configuration issues. After system and application subagent configuration tasks, the course shifts into customizing and tweaking alarm rules, reving up the Netcool/SM Operations program to learn all about remote deployment; and, finally, installing and cofiguring the Netcool/ISMs.
Network Operation Centre personnel who are required to install, administer and configure Netcool/ISM,Netcool/SSM, Netcool/ASM and Netcool/SM Operations. Micromuse, Channel Partner or System Integrator personnel who will be required to install, configure, maintain or support Netcool/OMNIbus Systems.
Each student should have a practical understanding of Windows and UNIX at a system administration level, and know how to:
- Navigate the Windows/UNIX directory structure
- Use basic utilities such as PS, Telnet, FTP, Top, Windows Task Manager.
- Troubleshoot user and group accounts in Windows and UNIX.
- Diagnose and resolve causes and other software anomalies
- Completed IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus courses for users, administrators, and configuration
Students should also understand protocols, Web-specific files, databases, and basic scripting. For example:
- System configuration files, and rules files for probes
- TCP and IP
- XML
- SQL
- Basic shell scripting and programming
The Netcool/XSM 3.1 course is designed to ensure that all students emerge with a total understanding of advanced administration and configuration techniques used in the Netcool/XSM suite. Student and lab exercises afford practical experience over:
- Installing Netcool/ISM, /SSM, SM Operations, and licensing and patching.
- Integrating Netcool/XSM with and sending alerts to the Netcool/OMNIbus Objectserver.
- Using Netcool/SSM include rules files.
- Creating secure SNMPv3 configurations and limiting agent access.
- Solving complex real-world alert scripting problems through a variety of subagents.
- Installing Netcool/SSM remotely using Netcool/SM Operations.
- Managing and updating agents configurations from a central point using Netcool/SM Operations.
- Navigating the Netcool directory structure.
- The architecture and communications between Netcool/SSM agents, Netcool OMNIbus, and Netcool/SM Operations.
- The various ISM monitors and how to configure them.
- ISM rules and properties files.
